This year, I went to the UC Davis Airport [University Airport] where the Yolo Amateur Radio Society [YARS] was hosting their Field Day event. Another great Field Day with YARS. This year, I enjoyed helping with setup. I got to help with raising the tower for a Mosely TA-33 'Trap Master' beam antenna [I think it was a TA-33-JR-N]. The portable tower belonged to UC Davis; it worked well enough, but the crank spindle for the hoist was worn out, so the crank arm kept popping off, making for a bit of a work-out. We only had to go up 35 feet. I had the opportunity to work SSB on 15 and 20 meters. I only made a couple of contacts at the beginning of Field Day; the bands were really 'jumpin' to say the least! It was a beautiful day at a beautiful location with a lot of great folks. I even got my mug in the local newspaper. Field Day is a great event, can't wait until next year!
